Programme details

One of the biggest knocks to the Patagonian colony was the departure of 234 residents in 1902. The severe flooding, lack of land, and growing military training had overwhelmed them and they also wanted land for farming. 234 left for Canada to establish a new colony. 70 years later, in 1974, while looking for Welsh people in Canada, Glenys James came across these Patagonians in Saskatchewan and recorded their stories. In this programme we hear, for the first time, their voices telling of leaving
